Use the key combination CTRL + Z to undo a move and CTRL + H to get a hint.Solitaire is one of the most popular card games in the world. So, take your time to find the right move. Take your time: the speed with which you complete a game does not yield points. The waste stack serves for cards that are no longer useful. Try to keep the work stacks neatly arranged and use them to build parts of sequences. Managing columns: try to split columns into 2 different categories: work stacks and waste stacks.Use the undo button to go back and try another column. Empty columns: try to empty columns as quickly as possible and use them as temporary storage to see under cards that are face down, to check if they are useful. You can only do this if there is at least 1 card in each column. You must deal new cards when you can no longer move any cards. So, it is a good idea to arrange the cards by colour as much as possible when starting the game. However, complete sequences can only be cleared to the foundation if they belong to the same suit. For example, a Jack of Clubs can be placed on a Queen of Hearts. When playing with 2 or 4 suits, you can simply move cards to other cards that are one point higher in value, irrespective of the colour. This functions largely in the same way as playing with a single suit, except that you need to take the colours into account. Furthermore, it is important to know that you can place any random card in an empty column and that you go back one step using the undo button. Whenever you move a card that was face down, the previously hidden card will be turned up. For example if the 7, 6, and 5 of Spades are on top of each other, then you can move all three at the same time to an open 8. It is also possible to move several cards at once, if they are all in ascending order with a one point difference. The most important rule of the Spider Solitaire game is that you can only place a card on top of another card that is 1 point higher in value.įor example, you can only place the 2 of Spades on the 3 of Spades (see illustration). It is played with just one suit: Spades! In this game, you do not need to take account of the colours when moving the cards. Level 1 is played differently from the other two levels: 1 suit Our Spider Solitaire game has 3 levels: 1 colour (easy), 2 colours (more challenging), and 4 colours (extremely challenging, only for the real expert). Once you have completed a sequence, it will automatically be moved to the foundation and you can start on the next sequence and so on, until you have cleared the whole tableau. For this purpose, you must arrange all cards in the tableau in descending order in the same suit, from King to Ace. The aim of Spider Solitaire is to move all cards from the tableau to the foundation. The Foundation will ultimately contain all 104 cards, sorted by colour and in order from King to Ace, arranged in 8 stacks. Each column in the tableau gets a new card whenever you tap on this stock. The Stock contains the 50 cards that have not yet been dealt. Here, around half (54 cards) of the 104 cards in play are arranged in 10 columns. The Tableau is the section in which the game is played. To fully understand how to play Spider Solitaire, we will first take a look at the playing field. It is played by 1 person only and uses 2 decks of cards. Spider is a Solitaire game made popular by Microsoft Windows. There are many other parameters that you can learn on your own we won’t pay our attention to it now.Just some notes I made while following along with this now-famous blender donut tutorial. Then in the parameters list, choose a contrasting color so that the object could be visible. Note that the color will be seen only in the Rendered mode, so you might want to split the screen in order to see the Render and a perspective of the object simultaneously.Ĭlick the sphere, and in the bottom right corner, you’ll find a menu with a ball icon. The Color option defines the color of your world, which will also affect your objects. To hide them, select the Solid mode.Ĭlick World, a red button with a red planet on it on the right of the interface. Notice: if you notice squares around your object when you rotate it, that’s fine. When you render them, your computer may slow down. You can select from multiple types of light sources, and then manipulate them just like ordinary objects to put them wherever you need. When you’re in the viewport, you can hold the Z button to see the solid display, or press Shift+Z to switch to the wireframe. Then, enable shade smooth via using the right mouse button click to display it normally. Let’s first create a sphere via Shift+A > Mesh. These are the basics of making really simple objects. For instance, applying to a cylinder will turn it into a pipe. With Solidify, the main parameter is thickness. It works properly only in the object mode. When you click on a wrench and add a modifier, you can also find the Solidify modifier as well. After that, you can only undo your action and change the necessary modifiers again. Notice: when you’re working with modifiers, you can adjust them as long as you don’t have the Apply button pressed. So when you do smoothing, complicating the mesh, or changing geometry, don’t overdo it. Increasing smoothing even more will probably make your computer lag or even unresponsive at all. However, with smoothing equal to 3 there were already 26,000 rectangles. In our case, initially, we had only 420 rectangles. When you adjust smoothing, don’t go too far with your experiments. The Levels Viewport parameter is responsible for what is seen now. The Render parameter is visible only during rendering. You’ll see object modifiers, among which you’ll want to select the subdivision surface to edit its parameters. When you have your object selected, find and press the wrench icon on the menubar. However, simply doing it won’t be enough to make an object smooth. If you find it too low-poly, you can go into the editing mode, select everything (A), and then enable subdivision with the right mouse button. Working with objectsĪdding objects can be done through Shift+A or through the Add button at the top. If you’re doing, say, animation, details for the depth of field might force you to use the camera in other ways. Then, configure the camera view as you wish by rotating the mouse and using keys W, A, S, D, Q, E:Īs for our practice, we usually set the camera location and angle to zero, then we move it along the Y-axis – that’s the most convenient way of working with simple scenes. If you’re going to hold the Ctrl button instead, the scene will be zoomed in or out on mouse movement.Īlternatively, you can press SHIFT + ~. If you’re going to hold the SHIFT button in addition, the camera will be moved around instead of rotating. Press it and move the mouse to rotate the camera. To control the camera, you use the middle mouse button (the wheel). Orthography lets you work in the isometric view, but don’t forget that the camera is at the top left, and you’ll be rendering what the camera is showing. Upon clicking it again, it returns to the previous view. You might need it to fully understand the shape of an object without distortion. That is, it has no perspective deformations. You can also switch to an orthographic view. It is a switch button to perspective or orthography. They are already programmed for changing the view, but usually, it’s more convenient to use the mouse to change views.īy the way, there is also a 5th button on the navpad. As we were all learning how to use new-to-us technology, like Zoom, we were building the plane while we flew it… there was a tremendous learning curve and guess what? Whether you built a Boeing or one of those paper airplanes that immediately nosedive into the carpet, you did a great job! When we adopted virtual meetings in the spring, we noticed that some Scouts dropped off because it felt a lot like school. Where this is perfect for Troop-level meetings, it is especially engaging for our younger Scouts at the Pack-level. Why Google Slideshow Agendas Are Made For Cub Scouts! Here’s an example of a recent Google Slide patrol meeting he developed. He simply shares his screen to his Slideshow and, in Presentation mode, is able to click on the links he creates for himself. His biggest win is that he can use materials that already exist on the web without having to manage the links. He’s since worked hard to make his patrol agendas even more interactive, finding new ways to use Google Slides to his advantage. In under 30 minutes, he had organized his meeting plan into a Google Slideshow that set the tone for a smooth, interesting meeting. My first test of this format was to have my son, a Patrol Leader, set up an agenda board and supporting slides for an upcoming patrol meeting. Using Laura Cahill’s awesome video tutorials, I was all set-up in Google Slides and happily clicking along, creating sample meeting agendas and thinking up ways to modify this from a classroom resource to a Den/Pack meeting tool. When I stumbled upon a blog post by, my first thought was, “how can this brilliant idea be used for Scouting?” A virtual Zoom background that displays an agenda, is attractive and attention-grabbing, helps maintain order, clearly displays expectations, and can be used to organize materials like You Tube and supportive links? Sign.Me.Up. Magic of Persia launched its first auction of contemporary Iranian art in Dubai partly, says Elghanian, because she has “a very special relationship” with Sheikh Nahayan bin Mubarak Al Nahayan (head of the United Arab Emirates’ ministry of culture, youth and social development) and because of geography. Tate Modern, the London gallery, acquired the first Mopcap winner and then staged a solo exhibition of work by the artist Mahmoud Bakhshi during last year’s London Olympics. The charity stages a high-profile contemporary art prize, Mopcap, whose winners hang in public collections from Tehran to New York. The next generation was also an inspiration for Magic of Persia, but in Elghanian’s case it was to help her children, and others like them, learn more about their Iranian roots. She is working with disadvantaged young women because “they are in the periphery of Iran – no one gives a damn”. “American-Iranians are scared to do anything that is in Iran,” says founder Marjaneh Halati. It has an OFAC licence, but sanctions have hampered the charity’s ability to raise funds in the US. The London-based Omid Foundation offers education and support to young women in Tehran aged 18-25 who have been the victims of abuse. In spite of the US sanctions, there are some western-sponsored humanitarian causes working directly in Iran. She founded the Hand Foundation and the Parsa Community Fund to promote “leadership development” and to support “Iranian arts and culture”. Semnani’s family foundation has supported Romanian orphans, a large-scale measles vaccination programme in Africa, projects in Guatemala, Indonesia and a health centre in his adoptive home town of Salt Lake City.īut even the best philanthropy is no substitute for good governance, says Nosheen Hashemi, a former executive at technology company Oracle and independent software investor turned philanthropist. Khosrow Semnani, an Iranian-born nuclear waste entrepreneur and philanthropist, hopes recent overtures by Iran president Hassan Rouhani may herald a thaw in the US-Iran permafrost and eventually “philanthropic work that can be delivered to Iran”. Nadia Parvani, a photographer who has been supported by the Omid Foundation Cash donations are prohibited, except though licences issued by the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control. US-Iranian philanthropic effort directed towards projects in Iran is severely curbed by US sanctions that have been in force since 1996. “If someone says, ‘I want to learn Persian,’” says Melville, “you need someone in a decent university like Cambridge with the resources, library and expertise to deliver it.” In UK universities – even those as well endowed as Cambridge – private patronage is the white knight in a landscape abandoned by public funding. High-profile cultural events may be dollar magnets, but the less glitzy work of supporting scholarship is harder to finance. Iranian philanthropic dollars poured into the Iran Heritage Foundation America to finance the tour. The Cyrus Cylinder (539BC), on loan from the British Museum and on a maiden tour of five US museums, carries an early declaration in cuneiform of religious tolerance and human rights. Principles of good governance, now championed by western governments, have Persian, as much as ancient Greek, origins. “It is a great work of literature, but it is much more than that: it is a symbol and versified history that explains what good rulership should be,” Melville says. Melville’s Pembroke College has recently received a £1.2m endowment from Bita Daryabari, an American-Iranian philanthropist, to support the Shahnama Project, a study and translation of the seventh-century 50,000-verse epic poem. “Not only do Iranians have a great culture, but they are very proud of it,” he says. While some Iranian philanthropists do support humanitarian causes, the diaspora has rallied to the cause of promoting Persian art and culture in the west, from the oldest antiquities to the newest video installations by young artists in downtown Tehran.Ĭharles Melville, professor of Persian history at the University of Cambridge, for one, is grateful. We don’t send blankets,” says Shirley Elghanian, founder of Magic of Persia, a London-based charity that promotes contemporary Iranian art in the west. Roula Khalaf, Editor of the FT, selects her favourite stories in this weekly newsletter. For example, if the top card of the spades foundation pile is the 5 of spades, you can place the 4 of spades on top of it.
This means that if all of them are empty, you can move five cards. You can move a sequence of cards that is equal to the number of empty free cells plus one. While it is allowed to move cards one by one, empty free cells make it possible to move several cards simultaneously. However, try to empty free cell as soon as possible. These are used for temporarily storing unneeded cards. If one of the cards can’t be played and is blocking the game, move it to one of free cells on the left. Drag and drop them to make columns of cards that are ordered in descending sequences of alternating colors. Start moving cards that are free to play. Once all cards are dealt, examine them and plan your moves. Foundations are built in Home Cells, four empty cells to the right. Cards in foundations must be ordered in ascending sequence, i.e., from Ace to King. This is achieved by completing four foundations. The goal of FreeCell Classic is to remove all cards from the tableau. However, it is also trickier than other solitaires because of the free cells feature. It's just really irritaiting, it spoils the experience from the otherwise totally enjoyable game.FreeCell may seem easier than other versions of solitaire games because all the cards are dealt face up in the beginning. Still, these 5% look harmless on paper, and I'm probably just being lucky, but I have to liberate a previously liberated location literally every couple of trips from a capital to a new location (or am I doing something wrong here? For now it seems logical to teleport to a capital after almost every "battle"). Ok, so I've been inattentive, sorry, I'll change my review. Nice to hear that you're still here (anyway, the problem's being discussed since December). Hardly a reason to rage quit, but I'll be lowering it down to 2% to make you and the others happy.Īlso, when a city is attacked it uses a new random number seed so it's not the exact same deal. I would have refunded the game if I got full scale of the problem in time, but unfortunately it's too late for that. Originally posted by PossiblePsycho:It's a shame that the developers seem to have abandoned the game without fixing the issue with making the players repeat the same levels again and again. I'm not here to brag, by the way I like the game and I'm just trying to give the devs a few ideas on how to make it even better. Maybe call that "Ultra Hardcore Mode" or something. Ha, well that's fine, it certainly would be an interesting challenge to have only one free cell and try to win using spells and consumables, although it would change the basic nature of the game quite a bit. You want a challenge, since you're so advanced, so you shouldn't get any gold or cell. That would eliminate most of the grinding at the start of the game and let the advanced players get into the more challenging matches right away. Maybe give them two free cells to start instead of one, plus some gold and whatever else would normally be earned by playing through Melaan. One suggestion for the dev: perhaps you could add a "Quick start for advanced players" option that would allow a new character to skip Melaan completely and start in Hurlen. I finished Hurlen, and now that I'm getting into some of the higher level kingdoms the game is becoming harder and more interesting. The amount of energy being pumped by the source of the sound to the listener determines how loud the sound is. The vibrating air particles then reach the listener and vibrate the small parts within the listener’s ears which produces sound. This series of alternating compressions and rarefactions create a pressure difference and the disturbance travels through the particles of the medium transporting energy. A vibrating guitar forces the air particles around it to compress and expand. Sound is produced in a medium and caused by vibration. Sound Waves and What Makes one Sound Louder than the Other In this article, we will dive into understanding the unit of sound, which is the decibel, and get to know how a decibel scale (dB scale) works but before that let us understand how sound travels and what makes one sound louder than the other. Measuring noise levels was not an easy affair earlier, but now with sophisticated and automated meters, one can measure sound intensity and volume easily and with accuracy. If noise is a problem for you then you must take steps to measure the noise levels so that you could reduce them. Step 2: Calibrate compatible headphones/air pods using the "Hearing" program accessible via the Control Center.Have you ever been in a noisy environment that has left you uneasy and grimacing? Have you covered your ears while walking past a noisy factory? If you have you must have wondered what makes some sound louder than others. Step 1: Install the "Hearing" program from within the Control Center Settings. Step 2: Calibrate the online sound meter with a professional sound meter.Īnd yet another method is to (assuming you own a recent iPhone): Step 1: Calibrate the headphones with a professional sound meter. Step 3: Calibrate the headphones by changing the volume manually using the NIOSH app as a guide while playing the calibration audio files. Step 2: Using the calibrated NIOSH app as a guide, calibrate the online sound meter above. Step 1: Use an acoustic calibrator and calibrate an iPhone sound meter using the free NIOSH SLM app made by the CDC. Just as an example, one sequence to calibrate both the online sound meter and headphones for hearing testing is as follows ( watch video). Headphones Manual Calibration (Use with Caution) Obviously, this method of calibration only works if the sound meter is accurately calibrated first. KeepĪdjusting the volume manually on your device's keyboard or headphone so that it averages around the specified decibel ± 3 dB (do not digitally adjust the volume which should be kept at the maximum setting).
